The aim of the present work was investigation various cultivation conditions in order to provide a foundation for sustainable, financially viable, and environmentally friendly system heterologous ?-phellandrene production by Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803. cells were able grow form distinct colonies both at internal external surfaces calcium alginate beads maintained their ability produce ?-phellandrene, considerably higher amounts compared suspension cultures, with maximum after 6 days. Both immobilized suspended exhibited continuous long-term only CO2 addition, without renewal nutrients or growth medium. However, photoheterotrophic Synechocystis, glucose as an alternative carbon source, had negative impact on ?-phellandrene. Despite fact that cell biomass accumulation pronounced under conditions, substantially decreased, indicating this condition is not recommended scale-up applications. Finally, combination alkaline (pH 10.5) saline (600 mM NaCl), i.e., extremophilic proved be amenable production, albeit yields bit lower. results new approaches development larger scale, friendly, viable systems sustainable terpenoids Synechocystis.
